How To Choose A Wedding Singer or Band

Jamie Reeves

It’s easy when picking a wedding singer or band to get memorised by the handsomeness of the singer, just take the pic of me above!!!  But what should you be looking out for to make sure that your get musical awesomeness and first class entertainment for your wedding.

Any full time wedding band or singer that is a true wedding professional will do very little, if any, public gigs.  This makes getting a wedding entertainment specialist much more difficult.  Wedding entertainment agencies tend to manage artists so they push upon there acts onto you, so they won’t be as impartial as you may think.  They also tend to charge a commission rate of 15-20% so it is always better if you can book direct.  You have more direct contact with the act and you save money. (It’s a rolling joke amongst acts that you have the agent details and the actual client details)

This leaves you with a problem.  How do I know my band or singer or any good?

I have the answer for you and its just one word.

VIDEO

Not just any video though.  Anything studio or really polished pro job could be full of studio trickery.  If you don’t believe that they can polish a t*rd then just youtube JEDWARD.  Auto tune can work wonders, or they could just Milli Vanilli you and get a session vocalist in.

The best type of video is something from a real life wedding.  Something where you can hear auntie maud cheering along, where you can hear people singing along and clapping.  Make sure they have at least two or three examples from different events, it will make sure that they are not just a one hit wonder.  Lou Bega’s Mambo Number 5 maybe a tune that will get everyone dancing but name another one of hits!!

You also need to see some video testimonials, ones where you see a bloke in a posh suit or a lady in a white dress.  That will give you an indication of how happy other people have been with there work.

Lastly, use your gut feeling.  It it feels right it usually is.  If your not sure, ask some wedding pros about your act of choice.  It’s a small world where there is only 6 degrees of separation.  Or give us a call on 0161 452 0014, we’d be happy to tell you what we think and see if we can help you.
