Some Things To Remember When Choosing Your Wedding Venue

When it comes to wedding venues we have worked in some stunners.  Places like The Dorchester in London, Borgo Di Tragliata in Rome, Italy, Lumley Castle in Durham and West Tower in Ormskirk to name but a few.

But there are some key things that you need to remember when choosing your wedding venue, things that will save you alot of tears later.

Some of the things to think about include:-

Can I stay there with my guests – My favourite bit of my wedding party was the after hours drinks.  It was the bit I got to catch up with my real friends, have a couple of drinks and really let my hair down.  If that is important to you then you need to make sure that your venue can accommodate overnight guests and that they have a after hours resident only bar.

What entertainment do they allow – Some venues have NIMBY neighbours (not in my backyard) and have what is in my opinion, ridiculous guidelines set to them by the local authorities. This causes certain venues not to allow live music after a certain time, to have sound limiters or to make acts go through there own systems (which are usually very poor and only suitable for a DJ).  If entertainment and/or having a live band is important to you, check the restrictions before you book.

What drinks do they stock at the bar – Being from Wigan I’m a creature of habit!!  I like my Corona.  I’ve just spent a week away with the children at a holiday park that didn’t stock Corona, they didn’t even stock Peroni and they called themselves an entertainment venue!!  Check out the bar to make sure they stock your favourite tipple.  If they don’t, ask if they will stock it for you, some venues can be nice like that.

How friendly are the staff – Some venues aren’t as pleasant as they should be.  If they are not friendly when they are after your money, how friendly do you think they will be after they have got it.

Where abouts in the venue will the day take place – Some venues will only have a couple of rooms so may need an hour in the evening to turn the room around, taking you and your guests to a smaller holding room.  Is that part of your plans of how you see your day?  Some brides also like to keep the wedding breakfast room hidden until it is time for that part of the day.  If you want to create WOW for your guests in this way then you need to take into consideration if your guests will be able to see the room during wither the ceremony or drinks reception.
